The Origin of Satan's Desire to Be Like God - K Santosh WIlliam
Understanding
Satan's Aspiration
Where did Satan get it in his heart that he wanted to be
like God? Where did Satan develop the idea that he would ascend and be like the
Most High? This teaching unpacks the biblical root of that prideful desire.
Biblical Source of
Satan's Jealousy
To answer this question, we look to the Bible. In Genesis,
chapter one, verse 26, God says, "Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness." God continues, granting man dominion over the fish of the sea,
the birds of the air, the cattle, and over all the earth, including every
creeping thing that moves on the earth.
The Catalyst for
Satan's Fall
The catalyst for Satan's fall was his jealousy. Satan was
envious of the dominion God gave to humanity—this beautiful angelic being, upon
witnessing a lowly creature being granted divine authority and made in the
image of God, felt jealousy begin to stir in his heart.
That jealousy fueled his rebellion, as described in Isaiah 14:13-14: "I will ascend into heaven... I will be like the Most High."
Satan's Punishment
and Relationship to Man
As a consequence, Satan was cast down to the earth (Ezekiel 28:17; Revelation 12:9). Where
was he cast? To the earth, the very place where man held dominion. Now, Satan
found himself subject to the authority of man, which was a significant
punishment. He was jealous that God had given man authority and therefore
resolved, "I'm going to be like you," attempting to overthrow God's
plan.
God responded by allowing Satan to be under man's dominion.
From the beginning, humanity had dominion over Satan.
